the freakbike was finished yesterday and I took it out for a ride this morning.. things started ominously as the gear slipped over to the 14t that i was using as a spare.. that was ok, because i knew that i could easily do 32/14 on the road.. A few moments later I felt that the bike was just staying in a straight line and not responding as I drifted about like a toy duck in a bath. I pressed on, unable to identify the true cause of the drifting, thinking that as long as i concentrated I would be safe enough! The ride was pretty uneventful, the most annoying thing was the constant squeeking of the rear suspension setup on the Pro-flex.. I can probably sort this with expert use of grease and kicking.... During the ride I: breezed though a 2 mile tailback, nearly got splatted by a truck, over took a roadie (ok he returned the favour and burnt me off - look I was on a singlespeed MTB) and i got wet too! All in all a good, but weird 2 hours on the bike.. Then I went to the gym. and it was BRILLIANT (after i had a little snooze.. ahem)

Being out on my bike, blatting down a trail at full pelt, then enthusing about it with my friends at the bottom, forgetting any problems I might have in the real world...

There are other ways to make me happy too though.

Spending time with my family generally makes me happy. Spending time with my friends makes me happy too, even if I do worry about some of them.

That all adds up to "the good times make me happy" really doesn't it?

I try not to regret past actions and for the most part I don't. The past is the past and its gone. Theres nowt I can do about it now is there?

Mines quite shallow: Being loved, no financial problems, a comfy bed, good food and my music.

Being happy is being able to go where you want, see the sun rise, and ride when you feel like it. To eat good food and feel warm, to be with special people and share a joke, to not worry about getting other people's stuff done by yesterday.

Failing that, being pissed usually does the trick.

oh well it's got to be reaching a peask, all by myself, no one else around, the mist moving in but still a spanking view. I take my flask out and take a swig, maybe even have a pipe or a J with me, just sitting there, looking. The ride downhill is still to come but I'm living this momnent, the time before the drop. It's like that time when you know you're getting laid but you've dstill got to start the foreplay.

Doesn't get any better than that.

Jon, that's one of the best things you've ever typed :)

I judge happiness by what I call my 'deathbed scenario': if I suddenly fell mortally ill tomorrow, would I be able to say I made each day distinct, each one stand out. Finding an achievement, small or big, each day is what makes me happy.
