Oh Dear, It Rained

24 Feb 2008 at 19:40

So.... chain started to die, rear pads wore straight though, piston pushed out, fluid escaped, BB cups crunchy as hell.

Speeds really down today, thanks to heavy rain, high winds, coldness and not being able to see a goddamn thing.

Bike felt much better with lower bars, tomorrow I'll throw some low risers and different grips on. My arms still hurt like hell - but that's probably more RSI-type symptoms than today's ride.

I've been looking at tyres too and think I'll try a Bontrager Jones ACX as it seems about the right price.

Conversely now I'm riding a bike with suspension forks, my arms and shoulders don't hurt..

You do take a battering riding rigid.

the acx's are nice and grippy...and don't weigh that much either, but they do feel draggy when it's not icky slimey

i found the 29er with carbon forks about the same as my old 26" cannondale with SIDs...but then i am odd

The bontragers's have got pretty flimsy side walls Matt so for you they might not be great and they have the habit of rolling off the rim at low pressure in tight stuff...

Specialized Captain's are good they seem to work and they seem to like lower pressures better as well, in fact they're th eonly 29er tyre I've had that hasn't fallen off of a rim at some point.

I'm liking getting back from rides and my upper body not feeling like it's been just battered solidly for hours.

The WTB motoraptors I got with the Ferrous are pretty ace.
Not the fattest in the world but plenty of grip round here. Bit lethal in our winter mud but then everything is other than mud tyres.
