Never Ending Story, La la la la la la la laaa

22 Feb 2008 at 14:34

Oh how I love it when the wind decides to appear again, not any wind, wind strong enough to fire you off the trail, but that could be the stupid big wheels.

Talking of stupid big wheels I have concluded the following:

  • Stupid big Wheels Hate The Wind
  • Stupid big Wheels Hate The Wet
  • Stupid big Wheels Hate The Bumps
  • Stupid big Wheels Hate The Hills

Nothing really happend on today's ride, apart from struggling to move forwards and not sideways. For locals, Heapy Fold Lane is a complete mess after someone* has scraped the top layer off, made it about 15ft wide and dumped a few tonnes of fist sized uncompressed stones on to it. Pretty sure this all unauthorised, and it's now a combination of stupidly gravelly and stupidly muddy leaving a ridable line about 1ft wide down 50% of the length of the bridleway.

* clown with a digger.

Oh, I thought nobody would notice if I went for a play on my digger down there last night!

15:39 22 Feb

That's fairly normal for laying another layer on top.
You know like tarmac :0)

Send the fucker back if you don't like it and I'll do you a 26in one!

16:13 22 Feb

hey, I was just pointing out what it doesn't like.

16:45 22 Feb

Stone the non believer.

17:52 22 Feb

Touche Brant

My Stupid little Wheels hated the wind, wet, bumps and hills yesterday.

But all you ride is wet bumpy hilly rides, mostly in the wind!

If it aint working, it aint working. I can get your bike back and sell it to a French bloke to crash instead.

I thought your average speed had been quite high on it though?

08:43 23 Feb

Brant, you're forgetting that Matt moans about *any* bike that he's riding. He doesn't actually ride for fun, just to destroy himself :)

12:35 23 Feb

LOL simon

@Brant, yes, you are completely correct, but I'm actually quite enjoying the challenge of ultimate power, and 30milers are quite tiring now rather than being a bit easy.

I reckon swapping tyres might help, and dropping the bars down/changing grips might help.

Avg speed does seem higher, whcih might explain the tiredness, today, despite a very strong wind I managed 12.9mph for 38.9 miles! I really don't notice I am riding that fast, I thought I was actually going quite slowly.

The main problem on it, it rear wheel drag and my wrists hurting like hell, btu I think the latter might be the grips I threw on being a bit thin.

15:21 23 Feb

How different is the gearing on the gayer compared with your "normal" bikes?

15:55 23 Feb

Get some Racing Ralph's on it, if the 29er ones are as good as the 26" version they'll rock, they could be a bit fragile for you though Matt....

16:50 23 Feb

From what I can gather you wouldn't want to use them around here, plus they're 32quid a piece!

{I actually have a pr for Dave here.}

17:26 23 Feb

They are lovely tyres though, and also reasonably priced when you buy them from Germany ....

17:35 23 Feb

28 quid?

17:45 23 Feb

I thing they worked out at 45 including packaging for a pair which seemed about right for Kevlar beaded tyres.

20:41 23 Feb

He can't return it anyway. He's swapped out / sold some of the bits.....

Anyway Booth, TTFU.

20:44 23 Feb

I need to have a go on it sometime. Not yet though, singlespeeds suck in winter.

20:55 23 Feb

"He can't return it anyway. He's swapped out / sold some of the bits....."

I've broken bits too ;)

I have turned the stem upside down as, after comparing with the Chameleon the bars were about 2inches higher, which could explain the wrist pain.

23:20 23 Feb

"I've broken bits too ;)"

Well as long as it's not the bits you are going to send to me. :-)

"Not yet though, singlespeeds suck in winter."

Nah. Weather sucks in winter.

23:26 23 Feb

No your bits are safe in a box which I really need to post.

I should have time on Monday to do that.

23:54 23 Feb

21:21 27 Feb

And thanks, obviously.

[forgot that bit!!]

21:31 27 Feb

Erm. likely to be friday before I can post, now.

17:39 29 Feb

aaaaaaaaaaah, okiley dokiley doo.

17:46 29 Feb

It wasn't today.

Might have to wait a couple of weeks now, as I don't have any time at all to do anything, but work and ride.

Could be Monday though.

11:34 01 Mar

A couple of weeks.....

I'd be quicker jumping on a train and coming down to collect the things. :-)

14:07 01 Mar

This is what happens when you work 11+ hours a day and ride for 3 more.

fuck all time for owt else.

12:30 02 Mar

Monday would be 2000% of handy. The other option - infinitely less so. :-)

15:17 02 Mar

It's boxed and labeled....

22:59 02 Mar

I have my fingers crossed now.....
