Award : Rider of the Year

21 Dec 2007 at 08:32
MattMagic Awards 2007

There's not really much competition in this category, yes you're all fabulous, and amazing in your own special way, but there can only be one Champion of Champions.

The winner's won, not based upon distance ridden in 2007, not because he's a nice chap, not because he shares my pain of destroying bike parts. He wins simply because he's stupid.. no determined.. no STUPID enough to mix roadbikes and ice, sometimes snow, on far too many occasions, which makes us all look rubbish.

For the first 3 months of 2007 I'd be thinking about the awful weather outside and remember that he's out there, out there, somewhere, in the dark, cold, slippery conditions, hammering across the moors with only the glow of his lights for company.

Even without the awe of his winter training programe, the amount of centuries he's done this year's pretty impressive.

I give you, Rider of the Year 2007, Twinkly Dave

YAY ME!

i've done 26 centuries so far this year (with another 4 aborted due to stuff breaking, lights dying etc).

i will be celebrating by doing a half century over the trough of bowland after work :)

what do i win, by the way? is it some sort of cake?

26 centuries is pretty more impressive than I thought.

You win, erm, the knowledge of being ace?

"The winner's won, not based upon distance ridden in 2007"

Is that because you've beaten him?
