4,000 29er miles

27 Jun 2008 at 16:17

The Inbred 29er's done over 4,000 miles now, and it's amost falling apart again, especially the BB which sounds a few miles away from the balls escaping from the collapsed drive-side bearing.

Summer's properly here now, 3 days of rain, ends a run of 1,300 mostly dry miles, more rain to come, strong winds still present... shopping for running shoes.

Full Yellow Shin

25 Sep 2007 at 13:51

Evidence of last weeks's crash are still appearing, today I woke to a full yellow shin, and after today;s ride a big bruise arrived on my right inside knee... I'm half expecting the image of Christ to appear on my back soon!

Talking of today's ride.... my rear brake (Hope Mono Mini) entirely stopped braking about 10 miles from the end of th ride, yesterday's sub-poor conditions had erased most of one of the rear pads, and as there's a stuck piston, once I'd got half way though the backing plate today there was no chance of the pads contacting the rotor.

The wetness (5 days in the last 7 - if I was counting) has allowed me to anaylse the path dirt takes to the rear brake, I'm completely correct about the outside lower half (thanks also - MikeD) but it seems that it also deflects off the foot in into the inside edge of the rotor. So I can only conclude that people that don't blow thogh pads liek crazy in the wet aren't pedalling hard along flat fast sections.

Oh an it was very windy again, oh joy joy joy.

Ping! 8k on the clock for '07

Horrible weather today, wet windy, and more wetness, the bike was all over the place, slipping around like an eel at a disco.

Knee still sore, but I was so cold after about 40 mins I didn't really notice. I could have done with my 'baffle' today, blazing though one of the two rear pads in double quick time.. the other's fine because of the sticky or stuck piston.

33.4 miles | Very Wet, Very Windy, Cold

Another Victim of the Conditions

16 Aug 2007 at 16:17

My 3 month old waterproof shorts wore though to a hole then ripped on the saddle today.

Got to love this summer, I think I did about 40 rides in them... which is usually the total for TWO winters! Bonkers, oh well at least we're another day closer to Summer.

26.8miles / Very very Windy, Muddy, Slippery, 12degrees.

Summer's Back!

It's good to see summer back in full swing, birds in the trees, sun in the sky, hot hot hot.... Oh WAIT! I have the script upside down.

It's good to see the summer is back here in Britain, I shall sum up the weather with just one simple word "SLOOOSH"

Lucky I don't *need* to ride a bike today... unluckly I did anyway and it rained heavily for most of the oddly short 20mile route and it was obviously windy too (according to my records for the 196th day this year!)

I can bring you a dead sheep update: It now has no eyes and it's middle bit's looking ready to be pecked open by the birds. (and I swear I saw a sheep having a nibble of it, too)
